Kylian Mbappé’s Goal and Assist Against Elche
Mbappé was involved in every phase of this win. He doubled Real Madrid’s lead in the 33rd minute, finishing a low Yan Diomandé cross from close range. He then set up Carlos Espí’s stoppage-time winner with a driven cross from the left.
The goal took Mbappé to seven league goals in six matches, the best mark in La Liga this season. An Associated Press recap of the match put that tally one goal clear of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Sergio Camello and Roberto Fernández. He had also scored twice in Madrid’s previous match, a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.
There was a scare after his 33rd-minute goal, as Mbappé stayed down in visible pain. He was treated by Real Madrid’s medical staff and returned to the pitch soon after. He went on to play a key role in the winning goal as well.
Who Is Yan Diomandé? Real Madrid’s Breakout Assist Provider
Yan Diomandé provided the assist for Mbappé’s goal, whipping in a low cross from the right that the striker turned home. He started the match in an advanced role alongside Arda Güler, Vinícius and Mbappé. His delivery was central to Real Madrid building their two-goal cushion before Elche’s fightback.
Carlos Espí: The Substitute Who Won It for Real Madrid
Carlos Espí came off the bench and became the match winner in the first minute of stoppage time. He turned home Kylian Mbappé’s cross after a quick move involving fellow substitute Jude Bellingham. It was exactly the kind of impact Mourinho needed after Elche had clawed the game level.
José Mourinho’s Tactics and Substitutions
Mourinho’s Real Madrid went for the win rather than sitting on their lead once Elche equalized. He turned to attacking substitutes, including Jude Bellingham and Carlos Espí, to chase a winner in the closing minutes. That gamble paid off in the very first minute of stoppage time.
After the match, Mourinho said his side had “risked everything” by committing to an all-out attacking approach. It was a bold call against a team already fighting to preserve a lead late on. The substitutions turned out to be the difference between two points lost and three points gained.
Elche CF vs Real Madrid: La Liga Standings After Round 6
This win moves Real Madrid level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. It also extends their unbeaten run at the summit of the table this season. Elche, meanwhile, remain bottom of the table and still winless after six matches.
The result also highlights just how different these two campaigns have looked so far. Real Madrid have scored freely all season behind Mbappé’s goal tally. Elche have struggled at both ends of the pitch, conceding heavily while searching for their first win.
